Stevenson Coaching Letter #1

Friends, I am planning on sending an email like this one at least once a week.  I thought it would be a good idea to let you in on what others are working on, in the hope that it may be useful to you.

I also want to let you know that I am meeting with your supervisors—all five of them—one at a time over the next couple of weeks.  This is so that they can make it clear to me if there are particular areas they want me to focus on, or if they have specific expectations, or if they have questions or concerns.  They may want to have a three-way conversation—or you may want to request that at some point.  However your relationship with them plays out, I encourage you to ask for specific expectations that they have, and any feedback they have for you.  Actually, I think smart leaders are always figuring out ways to get feedback, from their supervisors, their peers, and the staff in their schools.

I will ask them if they want to be copied on emails like this one, and I’m going to copy Peter on this first one and he can tell me if he wants to keep receiving them or not.

At our initial meeting, all of you raised the topic of your school improvement plan, and all of you are either planning on sending it to me or have sent it to me already—please don’t forget, it’s really helpful.  I have a lot to say about school improvement plans, and about the process of planning, so it’s kind of hard to stay in a coaching role on this topic.  Anyway, I have meetings scheduled with almost all of you in the next week or so to talk more about your school improvement plan.  Anyone I don’t have scheduled yet, I will be in touch with in the next couple of days, or feel free to email me.

So, if you have any feedback for me, please let me know, and if you need anything from me please don’t hesitate to call, email, or text.

Best, Isobel
